Competition Rules
Dated 11/26/10
1) Registration starts Wednesday December 1st and ends on Wednesday December 29th. There will be no registrations accepted after Dec 29th. Registrations are on a first come first serve basis
2) Due to the nature of the event and monitoring hundreds of participants, Body Xchange and contest committee may stop accepting registrations at any time prior to December 29th if we feel there are too many participants for the competition to run efficiently.
3) All participants must be at least 18 years old with proof of age if required.
4) The competition starts Sunday January 2nd and ends on or around Saturday March 26th. The final day will be determined by January 2nd and the availability of grand finale facilities.
5) Fee for entry is $75 for Body Xchange members and $125 for non-members. Non-members will also receive a 3 month membership to any Body Xchange Sports Club or Express Club for use during the competition. You will be allowed you to use the location you enrolled at only. If there is a scheduled Bakersfield Loser event or group class, you will be able to go to the location that is hosting the event.
6) You will be asked to fill out all registration forms and a health questionnaire at registration. You must pay the entry fee at the time you register. If there are certain existing medical conditions indicated on the questionnaire you may be asked to provide a verifiable physician’s medical release within 1 week of registering or by Dec 29th, whichever comes first. If we do not receive a medical release signed by a physician within the aforementioned time frames you will not be allowed to participate.
7) If you feel that you may need to provide a medical release due to your present condition, we highly recommend you register early as there will not be enough time in the final week of registrations to get a verifiable medical release by Dec 29th due to the holidays.
8) Body Xchange in its sole and absolute discretion may ask ANY participant at ANY time throughout the competition to provide a verifiable medical release if we feel it is necessary for the safety of our participants.
9) First Official “Weigh-In” will be on Sunday January 2nd at the Body Xchange Sports Club on Rosedale & Calloway only – the exact address is: 2749 N. Calloway Dr. You will be given your January 2nd weigh-in time when you register and pay your entry fee. Weigh-ins will start at 8:30 am. If you are not at your designated weigh-in time, you will be eliminated from the competition and you WILL NOT receive a refund.
10) Every subsequent weigh-in will be every Saturday starting January 8th through March 26th. If you miss a weigh-in at your scheduled time you will be eliminated from the competition. You will be given your subsequent weigh-in time on January 2nd. If we have to change your weigh-in time you will be notified by either a personal phone call or by email. It is your responsibility to know your weigh in time. Once you have your weigh in time, you may not change it. We will skip the weigh-ins on January 22nd and February 19th.
11) All participants will be weighed by 2 staff members and your starting weight and all subsequent weigh-ins will be recorded on a participant weight chart card. You will be asked to initial each weigh-in. All participants must wear the following attire at ALL weigh-ins: Bakersfield Loser participant t-shirt (if available) or short sleeve t-shirt and cotton shorts with no shoes or socks. You may not have on a belt or anything in your pockets. You will be asked to turn your front and back pockets inside out at each weigh-in.
12) We will have a team of 2 staff members monitor every weigh-in and make sure all participants’ weight is accurately recorded.
13) Competition staff may request a medical test if they feel a participant has used unfair practices which would enhance their chance to lose weight and win the competition. Unfair practices may include but is not limited to the following: ANY surgical procedure, diuretics, any form of weight loss pills/appetite suppressants prescribed or non-prescribed, and ANY form of illegal substances. Bakersfield Loser staff may eliminate anyone for the competition found to be using ANY unfair practices to lose weight
14) The Bakersfield Loser Competition will be judged and determined by the percentage of weight you lose to your starting body weight at each weigh in. We will not round percentages. You must advance every week and get to the FINAL 10 competitors at the end of March to qualify for the grand prizes. We will list the exact amount of participants we will eliminate every week by the January 2nd weigh in when we know how many total participants enter the competition. 15) The final weigh-in will take place on March 26th. Time, date and location of final weigh-in are subject to change.
16) Participants who make it to the final weigh-in will be eligible to qualify for the $40,000 in cash or prizes. The overall winners (places 1st – 5th) will be the competitors who advanced each week and lost the greatest percentage of their bodyweight for the total 3 month contest. The 1st place winner will receive $20,000.
17) We will also have prizes for the other top 4 participants (2nd - 5th places). The 2nd place winner will get first choice from the 2nd- 5th place prizes. 3rd place will get second choice, 4th place will get 3rd choice, and 5th place will get 4th choice of the 2nd- 5th place prizes. Prizes or description of prizes will be displayed by January 2nd 2011. Body Xchange and competition committee reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value.
18) If there are any ties (i.e. for 1st - 5th place), we will determine who has lost the greatest percentage of body weight at each weekly weigh-in and whoever wins the most amount of weekly weigh-ins will be the winner. If there are any further ties for the overall winner, we will split the overall 1st place cash evenly amongst the winners. Any ties for 2nd thru 5th place will be determined the same as above. We will have a total of 5 grand prizes ONLY. Body Xchange will make the final determination on prize distribution if there are any ties.
19) We will not post who is eliminated or who is in the lead as our ultimate goal is to help every participant get healthier and lose weight for the whole 3 month competition.
20) The finalists and winners will be determined solely by the highest percentage of weight lost to their own body weight from the initial weigh in on January 2nd 2011 and who advanced each week, except in the case of a tie between 2 or more participants for 1st through 5th places in which case the provisions of Paragraph 18 are applicable.
21) We will also have a top male and top female winner each month to keep everyone pushing as hard as they can. Prizes will be determined by January 2nd 2011. Body Xchange and competition committee reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value.
22) The (6) monthly winners will be determined based upon the participant that has the highest percentage of weight loss when compared to that participants own body weight for that month. The dates that will be used for determining your weight percentage loss for the monthly competition (prizes) will be: January 29th for month 1, February 26th for month 2, and March 26th for month 3. Your starting weight for the month 1 competition will be what you weighed on January 2nd. Month 2 starting weight will be recorded weight on January 29. Month 3 starting weight will be recorded weight on Feb 26th. Every month starts fresh for the 6 monthly winners.
23) If you had a tough first month, you still may be in the game for the second or third month prize. DO NOT GIVE UP.
24) If at any weigh-in you have a 3% weight increase you will not be able to win any prizes during any month.
25) Body Xchange reserves the right to cancel the competition by Dec 30th if we do not have at least 200 participants. If we decide to cancel the competition you will be refunded your entry fee.
26) By participating in The Bakersfield Loser you agree to have your photo taken and used in any promotional item or advertising that Body Xchange chooses. We will take “before” & “after” photos. Photos will be taken on 1/2/2011, 1/29/2011, 2/26/2011, and 3/26/2011.
